Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a vehicle for personal expression and it can play an important part in the personal development of people. Music reflects the culture and society in which we live, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to understand better the world in which they live.

We want children to be excited about music and to talk enthusiastically about it. We want them to look forward to regular, varied musical experiences and become inspired to realise their own musical talents. We want children to talk about their musical experiences at our school long after they have moved on to secondary and beyond. We want our children to build secure foundations that will inspire the next generation of musicians.

How do we let our light shine in Music?

Music is accessible to everyone – anyone can let their light shine through music. Feelings and emotions can be explored and expressed in many different ways. Skills learned in music are transferable, and music can also be used as a tool for teaching other subject areas effectively. For children who find the more traditionally academic subjects challenging, music can offer a creative outlet in which children feel they can succeed. Above all, music makes us feel good and is one of the best forms of self-expression and exploration.

How do we live out our School Values through Music?

We enjoy creating music with friends, and celebrating one another’s musical achievements.

We learn songs about the importance of friendship in our lives.

Music helps us explore feelings, such as compassion, when we listen to and learn songs about emotions.

It can therefore help us understand the feelings of others too.

We must try hard to master musical skills. Being successful musicians requires us to keep practising and working hard.
We are thankful for the way in which music enriches our lives, and are so grateful for the rich and varied opportunities we experience.
To develop as musicians, we need to make mistakes as we improve. We forgive ourselves and others for these mistakes, and move forward with our learning.

We like moving our body to the music.
