The intent of our Science curriculum is to ensure that all children are taught age appropriate science subject content as laid out by the National Curriculum. We aim to encourage children to be inquisitive about the world, nurturing their innate curiosity and enabling them to develop a range of scientific skills that are useful across the whole curriculum and in their journey as scientists.
Lessons are planned to build the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. With a mixture of subject knowledge and an understanding of enquiry skills, we aim to develop a school community that is confident in questioning the world around them, able to explore possibilities independently and to communicate both their own and the ideas of others effectivity using key vocabulary.
By the end of their primary education, our science curriculum aims to equip our children with the confidence, understanding and ability to:
– Describe and evaluate their own and others’ scientific ideas using evidence from a range of sources.
– Ask their own questions about scientific phenomena, and select the most appropriate way to answer these questions, recognising and controlling variables where necessary.
– Use a range of scientific equipment to take accurate measurements and record data in a range of ways.
– Draw conclusions, explain and evaluate their methods and findings, communicating these effectively.
– Raise further questions that could be investigated, based on data and observations.
– Appreciate how science has changed the world and that it is essential for our future prosperity.
How do we let our light shine in Science?
At Holy Trinity Rosehill, we believe that science is a powerful way for children to let their light shine. Past and present scientists have illuminated our world—solving everyday problems and helping us explore the deepest mysteries of the universe. Science expands our understanding, drives innovation, and fuels imagination. It is constantly reshaping our world, and our children are growing up in a time of extraordinary technological advancement.
We are passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists. Through practical, hands-on investigations and memorable challenges, we encourage curiosity, exploration, and critical thinking. Our lessons are designed to deepen understanding of the world while developing essential scientific skills.
We place a strong focus on purposeful recording and real-life experiences that connect learning to the world beyond the classroom. By linking science to careers and the work of real scientists, we help children see the possibilities ahead and empower them to form their own ideas based on observation, evidence, and wonder.
How do we live out our School Values through Science?
I like planting seeds and watering them.
We got to see so many animals, we learnt about what happens to them in Spring time.
I loved going to Bogglehole and searching for fossils- I found 3 different types.
