The intent of our Science curriculum is to ensure that all children are taught age appropriate science subject   content as laid out by the National Curriculum.  We aim to encourage children to be inquisitive about the world, nurturing their innate curiosity and enabling them to develop a range of scientific skills that are useful across the whole curriculum and in their journey as scientists.

Lessons are planned to build the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. With a mixture of subject knowledge and an understanding of enquiry skills, we aim to develop a school community that is confident in questioning the world around them, able to explore possibilities independently and to communicate both their own and the ideas of others effectivity using key vocabulary.

By the end of their primary education, our science curriculum aims to equip our children with the confidence, understanding and ability to:

– Describe and evaluate their own and others’ scientific ideas using evidence from a range of sources.

 – Ask their own questions about scientific phenomena, and select the most appropriate way to answer these questions, recognising and controlling variables where necessary.

– Use a range of scientific equipment to take accurate measurements and record data in a range of ways.

– Draw conclusions, explain and evaluate their methods and findings, communicating these effectively.

– Raise further questions that could be investigated, based on data and observations.

– Appreciate how science has changed the world and that it is essential for our future prosperity.

How do we let our light shine in Science?

Both current and past scientists have let their light shine. They generate solutions for everyday life and helps us to answer the great mysteries of the universe. Science increases our fundamental knowledge, creates new technology, helps us dream up new applications and it is continuously transforming our world at an incredible pace. Our children’s future will be filled with leaps in technology that we can only imagine and here at Holy Trinity Rosehill CofE Primary we want to encourage and inspire the next generation of scientists. We use practical and memorable challenges to form a deeper understanding of the world by exploring, questioning and investigating. We keep recording sharp and focused on develop children’s skills, providing exciting real-life experiences with links to careers and scientists which help our children form their own opinions based on observation.

How do we live out our School Values through Science?

We work collaboratively to investigate, explain and draw conclusions from our observations, experiences and experiments.

We show compassion to others when working together and support each other when things do not go according to plan or when other people have different opinions.

As scientists, we know that things do not always go to plan. We have to follow in the footsteps of the great scientists that we learn about; we keep on going and never give up on our goals and dreams.
We thank God for our amazing world and everything that is in it. We are thankful that we get to study a range of phenomena that makes up the world around us.
We understand that we may reach different conclusions to others. We ask God to help us to not get have conflict but to forgive and value each other.

I like being outside and digging worms. I make sure I put them back at the end of  the day to keep them safe

Dissecting owl pellets. They had all bones inside, I just wanted to do it all day

I love exploring new things in Science. I enjoyed learning all about Space and the different planets.
