The delivery of RE at our school follows the Durham Diocesan Syllabus along with the Understanding Christianity scheme. Whilst recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The intent of teaching Religious Education is to support and challenge pupils to reflect upon, develop and affirm their own beliefs, values and attitudes and those of others through an exploration of shared human experience and to understand the place and significance of religion in the contemporary world.

Lessons are planned and sequenced to allow all children to make progress building on previous knowledge, skills and experiences, whilst developing their theological thinking.  The extent and nature of R.E. is multi-sensory and so the children at Holy Trinity Rosehill will be actively engaged in using all the senses: making, using artefacts, art, music, drama, speaking, listening and writing, smelling and tasting, being still, silent, reflecting and providing opportunities for awe and wonder.

‘Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.’ Proverbs 1:5

How do we let our light shine in RE?

At Holy Trinity Rosehill, our children are encouraged to follow the example of Jesus and Christians in all that we do, teaching us to ‘let our light shine’.  Beliefs of people with faith and those with no faith are explored and valued through teaching tolerance, kindness, respect, patience and friendship to equip our children to thrive and flourish in our diverse community and world. Children are given time to reflect on their own beliefs and apply them within our school community to ‘let their light shine’.

How do we live out our School Values through RE?

We are tolerant of people from all faiths and those of no faith and embrace diversity.

We share the belief that compassion is at the heart of Christianity, which is demonstrated in the way we think, behave and feel within our school.

We understand that life can be a challenge but people of faith understand that God is on their side and will help them to persevere and not give up.

We thank God for giving us the opportunities and experiences to explore faith in our school, the local community and the wider world.

God forgave us; therefore, we are able to forgive others by demonstrating patience, kindness and understanding.

I like R.E. because I like the enquiry questions at the beginning of each lesson and finding out about what people believe and how it is put into practice.

I enjoy R.E. days where we do a range of activities to increase our awareness of different faiths – producing posters, making booklets and doing art.

Teachers help me to learn about respect and tolerance in other religions and how people worship their God(s).
