At Holy Trinity Rosehill, our Design and Technology scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of key stage attainment targets in the National Curriculum. We intend to build and apply a repertoire of skills, knowledge and vocabulary in order for children to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users. We want pupils to develop an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation, and evaluation. We encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We want pupils to develop the confidence to take risks, through drafting design concepts, modelling, and testing and to be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others.
How do we let our light shine in DT?
At Holy Trinity Rosehill, our Design and Technology curriculum is constructed to inspire children to ‘let their light shine;’ to think innovatively, inquisitively and become risk takers. We provide varied learning opportunities which aim to develop children’s creative, technical and practical expertise to perform everyday tasks and to participate successfully in an increasing technological world. We want them to express their technical talents; to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems as individuals and as members of a team.
We encourage children apply our school values: Friendship, Compassion, Endurance, Thankfulness and Forgiveness during the design and make process.
How do we live out our School Values through History?
I like DT because you can practise cutting and sticking as this can be tricky.
It’s fun making big tower blocks.
It’s fun and practical.
