The delivery of Physical Education at Holy Trinity Rosehill CoE Primary follows the requirements of the National Curriculum, whilst being tailored to the needs and interests of our children, using links with local clubs and Stockton Schools Sports Partnership. We aim to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. Children in Year 4 will attend swimming lessons. Our aim is that all children will have learnt a range of strokes, safe self-rescue and be able to confidently swim a minimum of 25m.
We offer an exciting and stimulating curriculum which allows children to progress physically and mentally. Lessons are planned and sequenced to allow all children to build on previous knowledge and skills. Inter- school and Intra- school competitions are carefully planned to match children’s learning and events ran by the Stockton Partnership. At Holy Trinity Rosehill C of E Primary, all children have the opportunity to take part in lunchtime sports clubs to develop their skills further, have fun and make new friends. Active Learning is key role of our day at Holy Trinity Rosehill C of E Primary, children participate in the daily mile, Yoga bugs and Zumba. We believe that children who are active, are happy, healthy and ready to learn.
By the end of their Primary Education, children should be able to do:
- Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities.
- Play competitive and team games and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending.
- Perform dances using simple movement patterns.
- Develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance through athletics and gymnastics.
- Take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team.
- Compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
How do we let our light shine in PE?
All children at Holy Trinity Rosehill CofE Primary are encouraged to participate in all aspects of physical education. Children are encouraged to strive to be the best they can be. As well as individual achievements, we encourage children to work in teams demonstrating great sportsmanship. Throughout the day, activities are planned to allow children to engage with physical activity across the curriculum. Past and current athletes are a great inspiration to everyone. Children are encouraged to follow in their footsteps by competing in intra and inter school competitions and festivals. Everyone can let their light shine in PE.
How do we live out our School Values through PE?
“We like pretending to be fire engines because we have to climb ladders.”
“PE helps our body move and to stay active.”
“I like playing as part of a team in PE. I enjoy playing Basketball.”
