At Holy Trinity Rosehill C of E Primary, the study of history ignites children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world. Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present. We provide opportunities for the children to ask questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement.

The delivery of History follows the requirements of the National Curriculum, whilst being tailored to the needs and interests of our children, using our locality to enrich opportunities and experiences for all. Lessons are carefully planned and sequenced to allow all children to make progress building on previous knowledge and skills. We plan/organise high quality experiences for the children to further appreciate the impact of History

By the end of their Primary education, children should have developed:

  • An understanding of the chronology of the British Isles and other important periods of History
  • Awareness of how historical events have shaped the world we currently live in
  • As historians, children will learn lessons from history to influence the decisions they make in their lives in the future
  • A passion for history and an enthusiastic engagement in learning, which develops their sense of curiosity about the past and their understanding of how and why people interpret the past in different ways
  • A respect for historical evidence and the ability to make robust and critical use of it to support their explanations and judgements

How do we let our light shine in History?

Throughout history, many people and civilisations have let their light shine In doing so, this has shaped the world we live in today. History allows the children at Holy Trinity Rosehill to delve into the past and appreciate the world around us. History will inspire the children to learn more about how the world has developed over time and especially the importance of our local area.

How do we live out our School Values through History?

We will celebrate the friendships throughout history.
We show compassion to our ancestors, the struggles they went through and appreciate everything they have done.
We will appreciate the endurance shown by our ancestors, which allowed the world to develop.
History has shaped the world we live in. Throughout their journey in school, the children have the opportunity to appreciate and say thanks for the work of their ancestors.
We will forgive those throughout history who have made some bad decisions and have caused harm to others.

I really enjoyed learning about the Great fire of London and designing our own houses.
